The world desperately needs more joy, more love, more happiness. Your happiness is your gift to the world, as well as to yourself. Learn to be happier and share your gift with the world.
Awaken to Happiness is course of five (5) workshops, 3 hours each.
Everyone wants to be happy. Every decision we make (whether we know it or not) is made with the desire to be happy. Yet so many of us are unhappy, or dissatisfied, in life. We work harder and longer to afford the homes, cars, clothes, and toys we think will bring us and our families happiness. However research shows no reported increase in happiness and in fact an increase in depression.
If we are not as happy as we want to be and the things we have done to increase our happiness have not worked, what can we do? Can we learn to be happier? Can we take action to increase our happiness in spite of the circumstances of our lives? The answer is Yes. Yes, we can learn to increase our happiness.
Research indicates that only about 10% of our happiness is due to life circumstances. 50% of our happiness is our base line happiness -- how happy we are under normal circumstances. This is, perhaps, a factor of our genetic make up.
The remaining 40% of our happiness is under our control. It is determined by how we think, our attitude, and our actions. Thats right -- 40% of how happy you feel is under your control! It is not due to circumstances or genetics, its up to you. Abraham Lincoln is reported to have said Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Studies in positive psychology have proved Abe right.
In the workshops we explore topics such as:
What is real happiness (and what is not)?
Why do we want to be happy?
What are the elements of a happy life?
What are the ideas and beliefs that we internalize that keep us from our happiness?
We will do exercises that you can practice daily to increase your happiness and joy, such as:
Find the Good
Being present to the moment
Choosing meaningful activities
Playing to your strengths
Learning optimism
Developing gratitude
We will also explore and experience the mind-body connection in physical activities to enhance our happiness, such as:
Smiling
Laughing
Deep relaxation techniques
Meditation
